If you think you’ve seen this lion before you’re right… I wrote about the afternoon this was taken a couple of days ago but I thought it would be fun to follow up with this “Photo I Wish I Had Taken”.
Besides this being a ridiculously beautiful shot by wildlife photography Marlon du Toit, one of the reasons I wish I had taken this photo, and if you read my post on Monday, you know it’s because I was there. I had my camera and I missed it. Wahhhh…
Actually, I did get it but I was in a hurry to get out of the rain—I was concerned the camera and lens I had borrowed might be damaged if I didn’t—and it’s a frightful blurry mess. Not even artistically blurry, just plain bad blurry.
The lion had lain over an hour across the river from our camp—across from our camp! And we were all dying for him to stand up. When the rain started he just sat there and shook his mane. I waited. Marlon waited. Others waited. The rain began to fall harder and I started to jog for my tent a hundred yards away. Then I heard someone yell, “He’s moving!!” I was completely unprepared. I whipped my camera to my eye but couldn’t steady the 8lb lens well enough to get a steady shot and then seconds later he turned and hid in the bushes. Wahhhhhhhh x 2!
Marlon however nailed it and here it is!!! Awesome, right?
