Postcard: Can You See Him?

Giraffe in SIlhouette in the Shaba Reserve, Joy's Camp

The sun had set and we were driving back to Joy’s Camp in northern Kenya, where I was an invited guest, in a pumpkin afterglow. It had been a fruitful day of sightings and I was anxious to get back to my tent, take a hot shower, have a bite to eat, and relax by the fire with a good glass of wine or three.

In the distance, high on a large hill, I saw the light had cast the trees across its summit in silhouette.  I love silhouettes, (check out an earlier a post on that here) but was equally intrigued by the unique perspective. The immense trees I knew were towering over the landscape were now in miniature, giving the scene and even more interesting effect.

My first thought: This will make an awesome Facebook cover photo. (Sad how social media pops into my head at the weirdest times.)

We were in a bit of a hurry ( I was starving), so I snapped my pics and then later when I was editing (I’ve always loved surprises), I saw him.

Can you?

  1. Interesting photographs are often where the viewer has to work, they can really make the image. That’s the case here Susan. You draw the viewer in – the immediate thought is why this image? What’s special about it? Why did the photographer show me this image. Then as one’s eye adjusts the realisation is there. A silhouette and an animal in the environment. It works on a number of levels – lovely!
