In Amboseli I loved the clouds.
I wanted it overcast everyday and to the chagrin of my fellow travelers I got my wish most of the time. It’s not that I don’t love the sun, but there was something unique about Amboseli shrouded in darker skies that was magical.
I think it was the colors: the deep blues, reds, pinks and greens that made up the countryside. Add in the grassy plains, the acacias and the small mountains in the distance and it was truly special. There was something Gothic about the landscape, as if it had been plucked from a classic romance novel like Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre.
I took this photo at twilight, the sky still pink from the setting sun. We were driving back towards our lodge and I snapped this from the window. I’m surprised, frankly, that it isn’t a total blur. I love the soft focus however, it gives the image an ethereal quality I wasn’t aiming for but glad it was the result nonetheless.
