Postcard: What Goes On In The Mind Of A Cheetah?

Cheetah watches wildebeest on the Masai Mara in Kenya

One of three cheetah brothers that we ran across during my adventure in Kenya last September.

I remember wishing I could read this cat’s mind while he sat calmly under the acacia tree staring at the lone wildebeest. Was he calculating his trajectory? Devising an attack plan? Thinking about a cute lady cheetah?

I guess I’ll never know.

LOL….Agreed. I don’t know why the wildebeest was so calm. I thought perhaps it didn’t see the cheetah because it was twilight, but assumed it would be able to smell it. Maybe it figured that it was at a safe distance so that even if the cheetah did make a go of it, it would be able to outrun the cheetah considering their sprints are so short-lived. Who knows.
